Hori Parata at his Pātaua farm, the place where he was born and grew up. The headland at the end of the beach is the eponymous Pātaua – Pā = Fort, Taua = Warriors. It was a formidable defensive position that was never overun. From a story on whale strandings for The Guardian media group.
