A concert for teenage music students, showcasing the symphony orchestra in a range of contexts and styles. It includes professional and peer role models, and New Zealand music is featured as part of New Zealand Music Month celebrations.
In this year’s programme, in addition to a performance of Sarasate’s Ziguenerweisen by APO Young Soloist of the Year Ray Ong, the Auckland Gospel Choir presents a work referencing Waihorotiu, the stream that ran through the centre of Queen St. We also acknowledge the 100th anniversary of the birth of Douglas Lilburn, the father of New Zealand composition, with two sets of APO-commissioned orchestrations of Lilburn’s Nine Short Pieces For Piano and four of his works for voice and piano.
